Australians getting married in Las Vegas may have many questions about whether or not the Australian government will recognize their Las Vegas Marriage.
Are you an Australian bride or groom newly engaged and wanting to plan a Las Vegas wedding with no idea where to start?

Do you have questions about whether your Las Vegas marriage will be recognized in Australia? Are you feeling overwhelmed about how to plan your wedding from the other side of the world when you don’t know anybody?

Well fear not! G’day mate.. Ok I don’t really say that.. often… My name is Sky and as an Aussie myself from Perth, I can tell you everything you need to know.

If you’re an Australian getting married in Las Vegas, look no further! First and foremost, I started in the wedding industry in Perth in 2007. I’ve done weddings and photographic assignments in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and Broome. I began travelling to Las Vegas anually in 2011 during Australias winter months, which of course are the US Summer months, and in 2015 I moved to California. Many of my weddings were Australians getting married in Las Vegas, or other Vegas weddings, and in 2016 I moved to Las Vegas!

First of all, your marriage will be recognized in Australia, but you won’t be able to change your name using your Las Vegas marriage certificate. You will need to go to the Births Deaths and Marriages office in your state, and pay $180 to change your name by deed poll. Once you have changed your name by deed poll, you can then change your name with the department of transport, and medicare.

It’s important to book wedding vendors that are willing to give you a personalized service and Skype session with you. It’s so easy with today’s technology to have a face to face appointment via face-time or Skype. You want to make sure that you actually like the person you’re booking to help you with your wedding, and that they’re a real person as well.

You want to figure out how long you plan on staying in Las Vegas as well. My personal opinion is that 5 days in Las Vegas is not long enough.

I will update this more soon, so if you have any questions you would like answered then post them below!

Australians Getting Married in Las Vegas looking for an Aussie wedding photographer Call me

Funnily enough there is actually a huge language barrier between Australians and Americans.. Starting at a few little basic things.. they call a bumb a fanny! Now if you’re Australian I just know that horrifies you as much as it does me! On top of that, they call wedding celebrants marriage officiants.. Way to confuse you! They also call ‘the Mexican wave’ “the wave”… and in some states I’ve been told not to ask for a ‘long black’ when you want coffee!

The great thing about having an Aussie wedding photographer to help you plan your Vegas wedding, is that you know there won’t be any strange miscommunications, you can pay into a good ‘ole Aussie bank account (The Americans are still using cheques!! Oh and they spell it “check”) and I know how to figure out the time different from Las Vegas to Sydney!
