Groom preparation photography is a lot of fun. What many brides don’t think about, is that you aren’t seeing your fiance in those final hours before you walk down the aisle. What a great way to surprise each-other later when going through your photographs together. It kind of makes looking at your wedding photographs for the first time together like an awesome surprise birthday gift, because neither of you has any idea what the preparation photographs would remotely look like since the girls weren’t with the boys, and the boys weren’t with the girls.

Usually in this time, I would photograph the rings, the decorative items like ties and vest details if they havn’t already been put on by the boys, and I like to get candid and fun photos of the guys helping eachother get dressed. I love to capture laughing and natural emotion in this time. Once the guys are all suited up, that’s when we can get some nice portraits of him in his Sunday best, and some photos of the groom with his parents to make memories for the family.

Groom preparation photographs don’t need to be boring. Todd was getting ready at one of the main casino hotels, Burswood in Western Australia, and so I thought for fun we could do some card game shots before the ceremony. I love to get ideas about who the couple are before their wedding, so that I can incorporate these ideas into their images.
