On an overcast day in Winter, Kristen + Patrick decided to ‘take the leap’ and say their vows on February 29th, knowing full well that they’ll only technically have a wedding anniversary every fourth year.
Have a look at the amazing view from the house.
Here is Kristen’s beautiful veil.
I arrived at the Oceanside California vacation home that bride and groom Kristen and Patrick were getting ready at with their family and went to where Kristen was having her hair and makeup done by Andrea at Unique and Flawless hair and makeup.
Kristen told me that her dog is her baby and she specifically wanted photographs with him. Of course if you’ve followed my work for a while you know I always involve animals when I can on a wedding day.
The bridesmaids had a jump on the bed before putting their wedding gowns on. Kristens dress was from David’s Bridal.
Kristen bought this gorgeous Peacock dress for her reception. She wanted a few shots in it by the beach before putting her wedding gown on.
Talk about an awesome DIY bride. Kristen and Patrick only decided to get married on Monday February 29th a few days beforehand, so she organized her flowers from Stater Brothers!
The girls finish doing up the wedding dress.
The girls add the finishing touches to the wedding dress. Patricks mother loaned Kristen a broach to wear that has been in the family a long time. They added it to the back fastening of the dress.
Bride Kristen gets her pose on. The girls put the veil into her hair.
Some fun silly shots in the shower. Wedding photos that make no sence are my favourites.
<3 love the veil
Gorgeous wine glasses.
So in California these are called ‘flip flops’ but in Australia (where I’m from) they’re better known as ‘thongs’ – Kristen bought these for the wedding but ended up going barefoot.
The bride going down the stairs to meet her man.
Patrick and Tony get their ties done up.
Patrick and Tony play some last minute fooze ball.
This is usually when I say “pull your best “I’m super intelligent” pose” – Tony and Patrick performed it rather well!
Doggy number 3! This is Tonys girlfriends dog. Pretty sweet camera performer.
The rings of the hour! Gorgeous wedding rings from Jared Jeweler.
So this is what’s known as ‘the first look’ where the bride and groom see each other for the first time. When there’s a time limit between the ceremony and reception a lot of couples opt to do a first look so that they can have more treasured memories captured and preserved.
Here Kristen sneaks up on Patrick for the first look.
Then I asked them to strut down the street. The brides father has a moment with the bride before we head out to the street to take some more photos.
We didn’t have to try too hard to get Kristen to laugh.
Then we headed back to the balcony to get ready for the ceremony.
The bride gives everyone a shout before heading down.
Patrick and Tony wait eagerly for the bride to walk down the aisle.
An emotional dad hands the bride over to marry the groom.
Then they walk back down the ailse happily married.
Of course at every wedding after the ceremony is the time for group and family photographs.
The bride and her best friends.
I asked the girls if they wanted to have a paddle in the water and they all seemed pretty keen. The beach water at Oceanside was really beautiful but it was a little cold.
Kristen the bride, laying down in the sand with the bridesmaids onlooking.
Here is the spectacular peacock themed wedding cake with bride and groom and doggy cake topper. I love it!
The moment of the cake cutting.
