My name is Sky Simone and I am a wedding videographer and photographer. I started filming weddings in 2007, left my day job in 2008 after booking way too many weddings to maintain my day job, and February 2009 I picked up photography as well. I have filmed and photographed over 250 weddings.
So what do you need to know? If you’re in the United States, then I have some good and bad news. Unfortunately both Canada and Australia have music licences that cover commercial music for wedding videos and other videos considered ‘domestic use’ however in the United States, no such music licence exists. For this reason there are many websites that have sprouted, that sell music to videographers and cinematographers for a licencing fee.
The first websites I began using back in 2007 were StockMusic.net, and Premiumbeat.com. I found an amazing artist named Dan O’Conner in Brooklyn in 2008 and licenced a bunch of his music for online use and client wedding videos too. However in recent years when I attended WPPI the Wedding + Portrait Photography Institute in 2016 and 2017 I became familiar with some really excellent websites that provide music for client videos.
