So Should I do a First Look at my Atlanta Wedding? These days the first look is extremely popular and has become a new wedding norm of the 2000’s. Sometimes a bride and groom that hasn’t had many friends getting married may not be familiar with the First Look. Or Perhaps the bride and groom are familiar with it but their parents are hesitant. First of all let me tell you what I tell all my brides. The first look allows you to both be in the same photograph or video scene when you look at each other for the first time on the wedding day. You can’t capture that during a ceremony as the groom and bride are facing opposite directions, and are both far away from each other the first time they glance at each other.

The Pro’s of doing The First Look

First of all the first look is absolutely amazing, and in terms of most Atlanta wedding day timelines, almost essential.

  1. You get to share those intimate moments of seeing eachother for the first tie, in an intimate and romantic setting without distractions.
  2. You are able to take in the moment and really soak eachother in.
  3. You have more time for beautiful romantic portraits.
  4. You have more time for creative wedding photography.
  5. Your wedding guests are not waiting around during this time.
  6. All of this is captured in photography and video.
  7. You can have a quiet intimate moment to remember forever.
  8. This is when you have the most time for the shots you will cherish.

The first look is truely the best way to give your wedding memories an amazing kick start. Weddings with the first look are more easy flowing, have a better time flow, and are more relaxed. Not only are the weddings more carefree and natural, but the photos end up much better as you allocated time for them. The first look photographs are sweet, beautiful, always candid, and display an intense emotion. It’s so stunning to see the groom look his beautiful bride up and down. Every Atlanta wedding needs to have the first look for sure.

The first look is an amazing experience for the bide and groom where they are alone with allocated time for portraits. We can bring the bridal party in shortly afterward for some portraits with them, on the grounds without guests and uninterrupted.

The wedding day is always more relaxed after the first look because you aren’t sweating buckets before your wedding ceremony. You’ve already shared the most amazing moments together and you know that those were captured by the Atlanta Wedding Photographer, and videographer if you have one.

If you’re in a venue that has a large grounds, then we can explore the grounds and where we can take photographs without being seen by guests or interrupted by anyone. You don’t have to worry about being rushed by your parents or a timeline, and your photographer can arrange for you to have as much time as you need to get more and more fun and creative wedding photographs, which is what I’m all about! I love to take creative Atlanta wedding photos and the first look assists with that.

Chris and Aly didn’t actually want to really see eachother before the wedding, but wanted the illusion of the first look. To accommodate the illusion of the first look, we did ‘the first touch’. The bride and groom had hired a holiday home for the getting ready preparation portraits, and we ended up staging this fake first look photograph on the staircase.
The bride and groom do a ‘first touch’.

The bride and groom then did a ‘first touch’ where they could be in the same photo as they touched each others hands in a loving and romantic way before the wedding. This was a beautiful alternative for the bride and groom who want more creative Atlanta wedding photographs but who don’t want to see eachother.

Some couples choose to get married late in the day. This usually occurs when a bride and groom are having t heir wedding ceremony and reception in the same location. One option for couples choosing to do this, who still want to be able to have beautiful wedding photos taken in various locations is to do the first look. This bride and groom were married at 4pm in winter, as the sun was setting around 5pm. We did a first look at 1pm with the preparation portraits starting hours earlier. This gave us 2 hours to go to various locations before the wedding ceremony to take beautiful and romantic portraits for their wedding album. It meant that the time restrictions and limitations of the ceremony and reception being at one venue did not cause them to miss out on more photographs.

One of the most emotional first looks that I’ve ever captured on photograph and video was Crystal and Joe. Joe was brought to tears when he saw his stunning bride for the first time on their wedding day. Crystal and Joe’s emotional first look blog post is here.
